Birth Control Q&A

What are the benefits of birth control?

Birth control allows you to take charge of your fertility, freeing you to pursue your educational and career goals. With the right contraception, you can decide when to start a family, how to space your children, and prevent an unplanned pregnancy.

How do I select the right birth control method?

There are so many forms of birth control today; the choices can feel dizzying. Your options include:

  • Birth control pills
  • Birth control patches
  • NuvaRing® (vaginal ring)
  • Diaphragms
  • Implantable hormonal birth control
  • IUDs
  • Sterilization

The team at Artemis Advanced Office Gynecology are experts in contraception. They not only offer a full selection of highly effective birth control methods but also help you to select the right method based on your health and family planning goals.

Together, you’ll discuss:

  • Your medical history
  • Your lifestyle, such as if you smoke
  • Your desire to have children
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Potential side effects

The team at Artemis Advanced Office Gynecology is here to answer all of your questions about birth control. If you have no plans to have children in the next few years, they recommend long-lasting reversible contraception.

What are long-term birth control methods?

Artemis Advanced Office Gynecology offers three long-lasting reversible options to prevent pregnancy. One option is the Nexplanon implant. The implant, a slim plastic device, releases the hormone progesterone continually to prevent pregnancy.

Your practitioner can insert Nexplanon in your upper arm in a simple in-office procedure at Artemis Advanced Office Gynecology. Nexplanon can prevent pregnancy for up to three years. If you decide you want to get pregnant, your practitioner can remove it at any time.

Another option is Paraguard®, a non-hormonal copper IUD that prevents pregnancy for up to a decade. Artemis Advanced Office Gynecology also offers a hormonal IUD called LILETTA®, which prevents pregnancy for up to six years.

If you’d like an IUD, your practitioner can insert the device during your visit to Artemis Advanced Office Gynecology. You can return to have it removed if you decide to start a family.

If you’re ready to explore the full spectrum of birth control methods, you can trust the team at Artemis Advanced Office Gynecology. Call the office or request your consultation online today.
